Senior Day

I think DeMarcus Nelson would be flattered to be included on a list with the likes of Shane Battier, JJ Redick, and Shelden Williams to name a few Duke greats. However, if I group him in a sentence with those guys after tonight's game, it could be detrimental to Duke's season.

Shane Battier in 2001 and JJ & Shelden in 2004 squared off against Maryland and UNC respectively on their Senior Day and they came away with a big fat "L"

In 2001, Duke and Maryland would meet an unbelievable 4 times and every single game was a classic. However, the one that Duke lost was their Shane Battier's last game in Cameron (that was his last loss at Duke though) in a game where Duke's season looked over when Carlos Boozer broke his foot.

In 2004, Duke had went 14-0 through the first 14 ACC games and along the way, JJ Redick was having a record breaking season. Then, Duke fell to Florida State on the road, which set the stage for JJ, Shelden and Co. to ride off into the sunset and beat a very young but talented North Carolina team. Duke started off hot but it wouldn't last and the rest is history.

Will the 2008 version of Senior Day have the same result? Will DeMarcus Nelson fall into that category or will he go out on top like Wojo in 1998?

We'll see...
